Isner withdraws from Newport after being emotionally drained

John Isner has just lost the second longest match in the Wimbledon history to Kevin Anderson after a 6 hours and 35 minutes marathon. That drained him physically and psychologically, and for this reason, he decided to withdraw his participation from the Hall of Fame tournament (Newport) that will take place next week and that he has won in 3 occasions.

From the organization

Todd Martin, the tournament director, commented

“After a massive effort like the one that John put forth today, a player is physically exhausted and emotionally drained. He has been a terrific competitor at our event for over a decade, winning three titles in that time. John has a lot of fans in Newport, and we will certainly miss him next week.

We are thrilled to have seen his success throughout Wimbledon and during this entire season. We have a great group of players coming to Newport starting on Sunday, and we look forward to a spectacular week ahead.”

Sam Querrey did the same last year after he also reached the semifinal in Wimbledon.
