Lionheart Djokovic reaches the 4th round in Wimbledon after controversy

Novak Djokovic is getting better and better in Wimbledon.

The former world no.1 beats Kyle Edmund in 4 sets after winning a battle and some controversy.

After losing the first set, Nole was too good in the following 3 sets to break his opponent 4 times after holding his serve until the end of the match. The final score was 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-4.

The controversy

In the 4th set, there was a rather controversial (bad) call against Djokovic when he had 2 consecutive breakpoints on a 3-all scoreline. In fact, Edmund hit a ball after a double bounce just under the umpire’s nose, but the point was given to the Brit that showed rather despicable sportsmanship by not giving the point to the Serbian. Eventually, Edmund won that game, but that was the last one.

Later Nole confirmed he was also upset as the umpire didn’t allow him to challenge that point (in fact, Edmund’s ball fell out).

It bounced twice. DJOKOVIC

After the match, Nole confirmed

“I was 100 percent convinced it bounced twice.

Anybody can make a mistake. That’s OK. But I don’t understand why he [the umpire] didn’t allow me to challenge the call. I asked him. So, yes, it was quite a strange decision from [the] chair umpire, but it happens.”

I didn’t know if it bounced twice. EDMUND

Edmund commented

“He also insisted he was unsure whether the ball actually bounced twice on the disputed call in the fourth set.”

If in real life it’s hard to tell, then it’s hard to tell for me when I’m scrambling. We need the umpire to get off his chair and go to the TV monitor on the side.”

Next vs. Khachanov

Nole will face the world no.40 Karen Khachanov in the 4th round. They have never played each other so far.
