Dayana Yastremska is a rising star in the tennis. The 19-year-old has already captured two WTA singles titles this year. With young players on the rise, the Ukrainian is tipped to be a future champion in the game. She turned pro in 2015 and has been on the rise, cracking the top 100 late last year. Yastremska was being coached by Belgian Olivier Jeunehomme. However, the two recently announced that they have parted ways.
History with Olivier
World No. 27 has achieved success under the Belgian coach. She won her first WTA singles title in 2018 at the Hong Kong Open. She has since added two more titles this year winning in Hua Hin and Strasbourg. The 19-year-old is currently ranked 27th in the rankings which is a career-high. The two had been training at the Justine Henin Academy in Brussels. After playing at the Japan Open in Osaka, Yastremska announced she would be ending her collaboration with her coach.
End of partnership
The 19-year-old posted the news on her Twitter account. In the post, she said that she would not be continuing with Olivier after the Japan Open. She thanked him for his work and the effort he had put into her career. The 19-year-old praised him for his support and wished him well in his future activities. Olivier confirmed the news on his Instagram. He thanked Yastremska for the opportunity to work with her and praised her for the job they had done. The Belgian said he was grateful for the times they had shared together and wished her all the best in the future.
Today I would like to officially announce that my coach, Olivier Jeunehomme and myself ended our cooperation during the tournament in Osaka. Ystremska’s injuries and the mother freak accident
Despite winning two singles titles, Dayana has struggled with injuries during the year. She struggled with a foot injury and later an ankle injury earlier this year which limited her during practices. She also had a difficult personal moment this year. Her mother had a freak accident where a champagne bottle exploded in her hands, hitting her eye which required surgery. The 19-year-old has admitted that the accident affected her performances and she was unable to concentrate on tour. Her mother underwent successful eye surgery and her eye was saved. The Ukrainian was recently in action at the Wuhan Open where she reached the quarterfinals. She recorded her first victory over an opponent ranked in the top ten, defeating current world number two Karolina Pliskova in the round of 16. Yastremska is expected to play at the China Open in Beijing.
