Sascha Zverev had another tough win in a slam after he edged Taylor Fritz in 5 sets.
The world no.3 had to recover for the 4th time in this year a 1-2 deficit in a slam after he beat the American 6-4 5-7 6-7 (0) 6-1 6-2. The match was suspended for darkness the day before after Fritz was 2-1 sets up, but the day after it was just about the German that conceded just 3 games before winning the contest.
Next vs. Gulbis
Sascha will face Gulbis in the 3rd round. Apparently, they know each other pretty well as Ernests was playing a lot with Sascha’s older brother. The Latvian commented
“I know him since he was a young kid because I was practicing with Mischa a lot back when I was 18, 19. I played doubles with Mischa, and I even went to Australia early once with their family to practice there. So, I know the family well. Right now, I’m always the underdog, and I have to get the best out of it.”
Sascha and Ernsts have never played each other so far on tour.
