Simona Halep to stay no.1 after Wimbledon

Simona Halep will have even less pressure during this Wimbledon edition as she is sure she will retain the world no.1 rank after the Championships.

Why Simona will stay no.1

Caroline Wozniacki suffered a big upset in the second round at the hands of Ekaterina Makarova (6-4, 1-6, 7-5).  That means that the Dane will lose 170points because she will get only 70pts from this year’s run while last year she reached the 4th round (240pts) at the SW19.

Currently, Caroline has 6,910pts, and she will have 6,740pts after Wimbledon.

On the other side, Simona needs to defend 430pts for getting to the quarters last year in Wimbledon. In the improbable case that the world no.1 will lose in the 2nd round to Saisai Zheng, Simona will lose 360pts (430 – 70). Therefore, since the Romanian has 7871pts, if she loses in the 2nd round she will retain the lead with 7,511pts (7871 – 360).
