Roger Federer has 20 slams and 98 titles under his belt. The Swiss legend has reached the final in Wimbledon on 11 occasions, and he has won the Championships 8 times. Still, Roger admits that he will be nervous in his opener against Dusan Lajovic on Monday.
Why I am going to be nervous. FEDERER
As per tradition, the men’s defending champion will kick-start the competition. Roger will be opposed to the world no. 57 Dusan Lajovic in the 1st round, a player that has already defeated last year at the SW19 in straight sets 7-6 (0) 6-3 6-2. Still, Roger is prepared to get through some nerves against the Serbian to comment
“I think it remains a little bit nerve-racking. It’s a big deal. I mean, besides the history and the mythical place that it is, you cannot also practice on it. When you come out, there’s a bit of uncertainty for both players… The entire atmosphere changes at Wimbledon, and you realize the eyes are on you. That naturally makes you a bit nervous.
Basically the first one on the show court, it’s always a lot to ask for from the players, but I love it. It’s a massive honor. You try to do your best.
It’s maybe more nerve-racking because you’re not acclimatized to the court yet. I think that might help me, the big-time match play that I’ve had over the course of my career.”
