Genie Bouchard qualifies for Wimbledon main draw

Genie Bouchard is fighting hard to get back to her best tennis.

The Canadian was the Wimbledon finalist 4 years ago when she was only 20, and she looked destined for immediate greatness. Unfortunately, things got really sideways, and Genie got completely lost. Once ranked world no.5, she is now ranked no.191, and she wants to correct this with a great run at the Championships.

Genie has qualified to the main draw after conceding 5 games (6-3 6-2) to the world no. 97 Mariana Duque-Marino.

I was really nervous. BOUCHARD

After the match, Genie commented

“I was a really solid today; I was a little nervous before. I feel like I’ve earned [the main draw] more than just being in by ranking so I’m proud of it and I got matches this week which is what I wanted because I’ve not played a lot, I’ve been injured, so that was the goal.”

Genie has now a 9-8 win-loss record in 2018, 5-1 on grass. She will be a dangerous floater in the main draw.
