Serena Williams dismantles Jankovic – 2012 Olympics

Serena is definately the favorite to win the gold medal. She has just won Wimbledon and she is in ominous form.

This time the casualty was former world no.1 Jelena Jankovic to be defeated in 61 minutes. The match was one way traffic with Serena conceding only 4 games, blasting 8 aces, and breaking Jelena 4 times (without conceding a break point!). The second set was quite an embarassment with Serena winning 26 points vs. Jankovic’s 12.

About the Grass

“The grass is a wee bit slippery, but you’ve just got to deal with it,” Williams said. “Get ready to slip and slide, whatever it takes. The area at the net didn’t wear out so much. Maybe a lot of the players will start coming to the net.”

About the first Lady’s dress (!)

There was time for a bit of glamour with Serena expressing the her admiration for Michelle’s dress. “Before, I would have been too nervous,” Williams said. “We talked about how I loved her dress. She’s always looking good.”

About the different athmosphere

“Wimbledon is so quiet. You know, you don’t hear much talking,” Williams said. “But here you do hear talking. This atmosphere I didn’t expect. It’s bananas, and I love it.”

Serena will play Ursula Radwanska in the 2nd round: head to head Serena 2-0 up, 1-0 on the grass (6-4 6-4 in the 2nd round in Wimbledon 2008).
