Federer 1 match from world no.1 rank

Even if Roger Federer is still shrugging off some rust after his 3 months’ hiatus, the Swiss sensation is already in the position that if he wins his next match in Stuttgart, he will regain his world no.1 rank.

In order to get to this point, Federer had to reach the semifinal in Stuttgart after he defeated the world no. 75 Guido Pella 6-4 6-4.

The match against the Argentine was pretty straightforward with Federer breaking Guido once per set without ever conceding a service game. Even if Roger didn’t look at his best especially at the beginning and then at the end of the match when he had to save 2 consecutive break points before serving out the match, the Swiss showed some good tennis, and he is right to be happy about that.

Draw and Results

Happy on how I played. FEDERER

Soon after the match, Roger commented

“I thought I was in good control today. I thought I served well. I didn’t give Guido many chances to get into my service games, except maybe the last couple. I was happy that I also got more rhythm today.”

The semis vs. Kyrgios

Roger is just 1 step away for reclaiming the world dno.1 rank, but that will come if he overcomes a big hurdle in the semifinal: Nick Kyrgios.

The head to head is 1-all.
