Berdych upset by Steve Darcis – 2012 Olympics

What did it happen at the opener? Something strange! The 2009 Wimbledon finalist lost an incredible opener at the Olympics with the world no.75.

It took only 86 minutes for Darcis to produce this incredible upset. It is clear that the tension played a huge role for the Czech. Funny enough it was Darcis the coolest guy on the court, something strange if you think that is not really used to play with 15.000 people watching him.

“It has always been a dream to play on Centre Court. When you’re young you watch Pete Sampras playing there and you think maybe one day, and today it was my day,” Darcis said.

“It was a great atmosphere. To play those matches is why you play tennis and today it was an amazing feeling.”

Darcis will play Girlado from Colombia in the second round (he defeated Harrison 7-5 6-3))

“I played him in Munich on clay this year and I lost already, but you know I just beat Tomas,” said Darcis.

“I’m playing good, I’m confident, so why not Santiago, he’s a great player and it will be very tough but I will do my best and see how it goes.”

Berdych early exit is good news for many players in the second half of the draw especially for Almagro (he was meant to play him in the third round) and for Murray that was on the collision path in th quarters.
