EMOTIONAL. Del Potro struggling with nerves during successful quarterfinal

Juan Martin Del Potro reaches a fantastic semifinal at the Roland Garros after he defeated Marin Cilic 7-6 (5) 5-7 6-3 7-5. 

The match was played on 2 days after a rain delay occurred when the pair was on a tricky 5-all scoreline during the 1st set tiebreak (not nice. Eventually, it was the Argentine to win the encounter after a tough battle. During and after the match, Delpo succumbed to his nerves a couple of times.

Juan Martin displayed a weird behavior after he committed an atrocious double fault that cost him a crucial break in the 9th game of the second set.

After missing his serve, Juan Martin went to quarrel with a spectator guilty to have distracted him with the disbelief of everyone. Eventually, the umpire had to go down his chair to settle the situation.

In tears after the match

Juan Martin was also struggling to hold his tears soon after winning the match to comment then

“It’s tough to speak now. It has been a long time without a good feeling in my body. I have had three surgeries on my left wrist, and I was close to quitting. I don’t have any words.

It’s so good for my team and my family. I am so proud to be playing tennis. I feel at home here. Merci beaucoup!

The match had a lot of attention. And to me, getting to the semifinals in this tournament was incredible.”

 

The semis vs. Nadal

Del Potro will face Rafael Nadal in the semifinal. The head to head is 9-5 for Rafa, but the Spaniard leads 2-0 on clay.
