Why Zverev was happy after losing to Thiem

At 21 years of age, Sascha Zverev displays once more that he is already a champion also in defeat. The world no.3 had to bow in the Roland Garros quarters to his friend Dominic Thiem after sustaining an injury. He decided to finish the match to honor the crowd (eventually he lost 6-4 6-2 6-1), and he didn’t complain much about that

It was a very positive clay court season

Zverev impressed during the press conference following his match. In fact, the seed no.2 commented about the big picture, and he shared the fact that winning 2 tournaments on clay (Munich and Madrid) and reaching his first quarterfinal in a slam wasn’t that bad.

“I won three five-set matches in a row, [I] got to my first [slam] quarter-final,” he commented. “All positive. The clay court season, in general, has been very positive. I lost three matches on the clay, all to great players. And I won two tournaments, made two Masters 1000 finals. So, it’s all very positive.

I think if I get healthy again, I’ll be ready to play good in the grass court season, as well. The grass is a surface that I like. Hopefully, I can deal with what I have. And it’s going to be a quick recovery.”

Great attitude.
