Thiem beats injured Zverev to reach his 3rd consecutive Roland Garros semi

Easy stuff for Dominic Thiem in Paris as the Austrian beats an injured Sascha Zverev in straight sets.

Dominic was well aware that his friend Sascha was struggling from a physical point of view as the German won the last 3 matches in 5 sets after being 1-2 sets down in every encounter. Therefore, Thiem chose to make Zverev run from the very beginning. Eventually, the German got injured in the second set after he lost the opener 6-4 and that was game over. Sascha decided courageously to keep on playing, but eventually, it was Thiem to win 6-4 6-2 6-1 without suffering too much.

About playing an injured Zverev

After the match, Dominic commented

“It’s never easy if your opponent obviously is not 100 percent. But he’s one of the fittest guys on tour, and even for him, it’s maybe a little bit too tough to play three five-setters in the first rounds of a Slam. So I expected, somehow, that he to be a little bit tired, but still, I’m happy how I finished the game. I let him run. I was doing what I had to do, and so I’m satisfied.”

The semis vs. Cecchinato

Dominic Thiem will play a surprising Marco Cecchinato in the semifinal. The world no.72 has stunned Djokovic in 4 sets in the quarter. The head to head is 1-0 for Thiem that is the obvious favorite to reach the final.
