Dimitrov survives Donaldson in 5 sets

Grigor Dimitrov wins an extremely tough 5-setter against the world no.57 Jared Donaldson.

The American looked set to produce a big upset in this 2nd round of the French Open taking advantage of the fact that the Bulgarian often struggles to play his best tennis in Paris.

After exchanging the first 4 sets, the pair went on playing an epic 5 set that ended only after 18 games! In fact, there was no break till the 15th game wen Grigor broke a cramping Donaldson at love. However, it was the world no.5 to fail to serve out the match and concede his serve at 15. Then, in the following game, Dimitrov broke the American again, and he didn’t fail to hold his serve soon after and win the match 6-7 (2) 6-4 4-6 6-4 10-8.

I didn’t play at my best, but happy. DIMITROV

Soon after the match, Dimitrov commented

“It’s great to win a match in five sets. I think it stays with you, you keep it, and especially on clay and out here. It was one of those matches that I didn’t play my best, but I managed a way to win. And when one thing wasn’t going well, the physical part was great.”

Next vs. Verdasco

Grigor will face the world no. 35 Fernando Verdasco for a place in the 4th round. The head to head is 2-all, 1-all on clay. The Spaniard has recently defeated Dimitrov in Indian Wells 7-6 (4) 4-6 6-3.
