Injured Edmund to share Dan Evans’s coach Colin Beecher after splitting with Mark Hilton

The two British players will share a coach after Edmund and Hilton announced that they had parted ways.

Kyle Edmund is having a season to forget. The 24-year-old is currently the highest-ranked British player on the ATP rankings at number 32. The player, however, has been on a poor run of form this year. He has only won 12 matches on tour, and the furthest he has progressed in a tournament is the quarterfinals in East Bourne. The British number one has been dealing with a knee injury during the year. The bad news continues after it was recently revealed that he had parted ways with his coach Mark Hilton.

Split with Mark Hilton

Hilton has been Edmund’s lone coach from February this year. He had been coaching the British player with another coach, Freddie Rosengren from Sweden. Together, they helped the 24-year-old reach the Australian Open semi-final in 2018. Edmund has won one ATP Tour title and was ranked 14^th in the world in 2018, the highest position he has achieved in his career. According to BBC, Hilton is said to have made the decision to part ways with the player. The coach felt that it was time for a change after the British player the bad results this season. News about the coaching change was announced after Edmund lost in the first round of the Chengdu Open in Beijing. Hilton did not travel to the tournament. The highest-ranked British player lost to Chilean Cristian Garin in straight sets. Garin is ranked one position below Edmund.

Beecher coaching Edmund and Evans

After parting with Hilton, the 24-year-old will work with British coach Colin Beecher. Beecher worked with Edmund when he was a teenager and is coaching Dan Evans. Evans is the second highest-ranked British player and is currently 48^th on the rankings. The 29-year-old was also playing at the Chengdu Open. He advanced from the first round after defeating Chinese wildcard Yan Bai. Evans was previously coached by Hilton before he was suspended because of drug use. The player served a one-year suspension from 2017 to 2018 after he tested positive for cocaine.

Edmund will remain in China for some upcoming tournaments. He is set to play in Beijing and then at the Shanghai Masters. After the Asian part of the tour, Edmund is set to feature come at some European events in Vienna, Paris and the Davis Cup finals in Madrid. Beecher is in China and will spend some time with both players on tour.
