Shapovalov has a solid start in Paris

Denis Shapovalov had a very good start of his first Roland Garros campaign.

Denis was opposed to a more experienced player in the 1st round when he had to face the world no. 59 John Millman. The Australian found immediately his range to conquer a 5-2 lead, but Denis used his superior firepower to win the next 5 games and the set (7-5).

However, Denis had to battle also in the second set when he had to recover from a 1-3 before winning 5 of the following 6 games (6-4). There was less to fight in the 3rd set after Denis conceded just 2 games before winning the contest 7-5 6-4 6-2.

 

Next Match

Denis will face the world no.70 Maximilian Martener in the 2nd round. They have never played each other so far.
