INTEGRITY. Halys refuses main draw wild card to lose 34,000 euro

At 21 years of age, Quentin Halys is one of the most interesting prospects of the French tennis, and he has recently shown an incredible level of integrity.

What happened?

As usual, the French Federation decided to concede almost the overall pack of wildcards to its players for the Roland Garros main draw.

Ranked no.134, Quentin was the highest ranked Frenchman outside the direct entries to the main draw. Halys refused a wildcard saying that he didn’t feel it fair also because his level wasn’t there. Instead, he wanted to try to win the entrance to the main draw playing the qualifications.

Eventually, Quentin didn’t make it as he lost in the 1st round of the qualifications to the world no. 229 Andrea Collarini 4-6 7-6 (4) 6-4.

This result means that Halys has lost 34,000 Euro in prize money for not playing the 1st round, but he has gained a lot of respect among his colleagues and fans.
