Incredible stuff in Rome!
Karolina Pliskova loses to the world no. 42 Maria Sakkari after the chair umpire committed an incredible mistake during a very important moment of the match, and the former world no.1 didn’t take it nicely.
What happened
Karolina and Maria were battling hard on a 3-6 6-3 5-5 40-40 scoreline when Karolina won a point with an easy overhead that landed well before the line. The line judge called the point out with the disbelieve of the Czech (and everyone else). Eventually, things got even worse when the chair umpire, Marta Mrozinska, validated the call.
Unfortunately, Karolina couldn’t cope with that, and she went on losing the match. After the encounter, she refuses to shake hands with the umpire and instead she destroyed her chair.
That’s was nasty… from both sides. Probably Sakkari could have also “validated” the point in the name of sportsmanship.
I have never seen Pliskova like this. pic.twitter.com/nAI5OcMjdH

Pliskova raises her hand to shake the umpire’s hand, thinks better of it, and instead smashes open the umpire’s chair with four blows of her racquet.
