Roberta Vinci retires from tennis

Roberta Vinci has been a fantastic character on tour. The Italian has been a tremendous example for everyone with her positive attitude and her fair play.

Roberta has been greatly successful with 10 singles titles, 25 in doubles (5 slams) and 4 Fed Cups. The Italian has also been ranked no. 7 in May 2016.

Vinci will be remembered for stunning Serena Williams in a historic US Open semifinal in 2015 when the American was the obvious favorite, and she was also 2 matches away from winning an incredible Calendar-Year Grand Slam.

The farewell

Roberta chose Rome as her last tournament, and her last match was on Monday when she lost to Aleksandra Krunic 2-6 6-0 6-3.

“I had a difficult and different kind of tennis. I know it’s an old style. You have to stay in good form, and you have to run a lot, and you have to think about every single shot.”

All the results that I had. Top 10, slams, and I’m so proud of myself. There were ups and downs, of course, in this, but I’m really proud of my tennis, myself and my career. I tried my best, and I’m really proud of everything.”

We will miss Roberta, her smile, and that “old style.”

That was a great run.
