Even if the ATP1000 in Madrid will miss some top players such as Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, Andy Murray, and Marin Cilic the draw is hitting the headlines also because of a blockbuster 1st round between Kei Nishikori and Novak Djokovic.
Nishikori
Currently ranked no.21, Nishikori is the most dangerous floater because he is on his way back to top form after being out of the competitions for long. The Japanese has impressed in Monte-Carlo where he reached the final before losing to Rafael Nadal, and he is ready for more in the rest of the season.
Djokovic
On the other side, Nole is struggling to get back to his form. Currently ranked no.12, the former world no.1 is putting back his coaching team after his performance has not been that great in 2018 (5-5 is the win-loss record). Besides his struggle, Djokovic is widely expected to find his way back to the top.
The head to head
The head to head is 11-2 for Djokovic, but this time Kei may be considered as the favorite because he is in much better shape. However, the Serbinator can come back any time!
