Confident Federer expects something special from the Olympics

Roger had to chill out a bit in Sardinia to recover from the feat he has achieved in Wimbledon with a couple of new broken records, fans and press getting (again) mad for him etc. etc. But now it’s time to get back to business.

The Olympic Games are about to start and the Swiss is set to go for the win. This edition of the tennis Olympic Games seems to be perfect for Roger as they are going to be played on grass in his backyard in Wimbledon (where he just won) and his most dangerous opponent (Nadal) can’t make it due to an injury

It’s amazing to me that this is already my fourth Olympics” Federer said “Always something special has happened at every Olympic Games I’ve taken part in, and obviously I learned a lot as well — like living in the Village, carrying the flag, responsibilities, seeing huge press rooms, facing a lot of pressure, winning gold.

“I just made the cut back in 2000. I was still very young then. I was only 18, 19. I was obviously able to make the Olympics. That was a big deal for me. There were a lot of things that I was able to take away from the Olympic Games. I hope it’s going to be something similar this time.

“I was in central London recently and I did see they were preparing a big square for the Olympics, which I’m sure are going to be amazing.”

The only danger for Roger is to be to complacent on his current fitness to lose focus. Otherwise he remains the favourite.
