Wimbledon changes its schedules starting from 2015

This was a sensible decision taken by the All-England Lawn and Tennis Club.

There was always the problem of no much time for players to adjust their tennis from the Roland Garros to Wimbledon. This was a bit ridiculous since the two surface (clay and grass) are just completely different and they require a completely different game (ok… do not ask to Borg that was quite an exception). Now there are only 2 weeks to complete the adjustment while from 2015 players can count on a 3 weeks transition.

“There is widespread support within the game for extending the gap,” said All England Club chairman Philip Brook. “The best interests of tennis will be served by allowing the players more time to recuperate and to adjust from the clay of Roland Garros to the grass at Wimbledon.”

“In making this change from 2015 we recognize that there will be some important consequences for the overall tennis calendar and enough time needs to be given to allow us all to plan accordingly,” Brook added. “In anticipation of the work required, I would like to thank our colleagues throughout the game for their enthusiasm and support for the vision of a tennis calendar that will better suit the needs of the modern day sport.”

The Winners

Tennis players should be quite happy. Sabine Lisik immediately tweeted  “Wimbledon will moved back a week starting 2015. That hopefully means we’ll have a longer grass court season too.”. Apparently this change has been requested from tennis players since the 80s!

The Losers

The big problem is for the other tournaments as Bastad, Newport, Stuttgart and Umag that shuld be either posponed (best and reccomended case) or cancelled (that would be a shame). Maybe the best solution is to pospone everything of 1 week all the way to the US Open
