Zverev advances in Monte Carlo

Sascha Zverev has one of his “not-so-perfect” openers in Monte Carlo. The German sensation is used to struggle in his opening matches, and the history repeated itself in the Principality against the world no. 28 Gilles Muller that is definitely not a clay court specialist.

The match

In the first set, after being 1 break-up (4-3), Sascha got broken twice before losing 3 consecutive games and surrender the opener 6-4. The German was much more solid in the second set to break Muller in the first (1-0) and last game (6-3) to bring the contest at the decider.

Sascha was completely dominant in the 3rd set after he conquered a solid 3-0 lead. Eventually, the world no.4 won the match 4-6 6-3 6-2 in 2 hours and 2 minutes.

In the third round, Sascha will clash against either the world no.20 Fabio Fognini or his compatriot Jan-Lennard Struff (ranked no.61).
