Stefanos Tsitsipas and Denis Shapovalov are definitely the future of tennis.
Both teenagers have a fantastic personality, and they possess a hyper-aggressive tennis that is really fun to watch.
Stefanos and Denis clashed in a highly entertaining opener in Monte Carlo, and it was Tsitsipas to win the encounter in straight sets 6-3 6-4.
Ranked no.71, the Greek looked much more comfortable on the dirt than his counterpart to immediately grab a decisive 4-1 lead in the opener before winning the first set 6-3. Stefanos clinched a 2-0 advantage in the second set, but the Canadian stormed back to win the following 3 games (3-2). Eventually, it was Tsitsipas to get back and conquer the contest in just 81 minutes.
This is the 3rd consecutive match won by the Greek in Monte Carlo without dropping a set as he defeated Florent Diep (6-3 6-2) and Mirza Basic (6-1 6-4) in the qualifications.
Next vs. Goffin
Tsitsipas will face David Goffin in the 2nd round. The Belgian is still trying to recover from his freak eye injury, and he hasn’t won a match in the last 2 months (14 of February).
The head to head is 1-0 for the Greek that has defeated David last year in the quarters in Antwerp.
