Tough scene in Houston.
Steve Johnson wins his 3-career title, but his first since his father passed away. The American lost his father in May last year, and he already struggled in containing his emotions in Paris after he won a match against Borna Coric.
Back in Houston, the first thought that the American had after winning the final against Tennys Sandgren (7-6 (2) 2-6 6-4) was for his father with Steve broking into tears at the net.
It means a lot. JOHNSON
Soon after the match, Steve commented
“It means a lot here. This is one of the best tournaments of the year. You get the atmosphere of the country club, everything that goes with it. The people are awesome, everybody involved in the tournament makes it so special. Always happy to come back here and start my clay-court season.”
