Elise Mertens keeps on having a dream 2018. Besides a fantastic run at the Australian Open where she reached the semifinal, the Belgian wins her 2nd title of the season (the 3rd in her career) in Lugano after edging Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets 7-5 6-2 in an 82-minutes final.

Soon after the match, Else explained why she is playing so well.
“I’ve been practicing a lot on court but also off court,” Mertens commented. “I’ve got a good team around me. This week my dad is with me, my dad, who doesn’t come with me that often. It’s really great to make a bit more family history here, because my grandparents actually had their honeymoon here many years ago!”
Elise has now a handsome 17-5 win-loss record in 2018, and she has confirmed that she will play the Fed Cup in the upcoming weekend with her Belgian team against Italy.
