According to the New York Times, the US Open will introduce a serve clock in the upcoming edition. This will be an exciting innovation, but there are some legit doubts about the penalties.
In fact, if a player fails to respect the rule, he or she will have a warning, then the loss of the point and then the loss of the entire game!
Daren Cahill’s opinion
Daren Cahill, Simona Halep’s coach, expressed his views on Twitter about the all thing to say
“Great to implement a shot clock but these penalties are ridiculous. 1st time a warning, then loss of point, then loss of game Should always be loss of 1st serve. Also, what happens if a player does an errant ball toss? Clock restarts or clock keeps ticking triggering penalties?”
Then he added, “Loose cannons everywhere making decisions.”
Daren is completely right. Enforcing this kind of rules especially during a deciding set can be completely disruptive.
