Kyrgios wins a strange opener in Houston

When Nick Kyrgios plays a match the first question mark is not who the opponent is, but if the Australian is fit and willing to play.

Today in Houston it was 100% about this kind of situation in Kyrgios’ opener against the world no. 108 Bjorn Fratangelo, especially in the first set,  when Kyrgios looked lethargic and almost not willing to engage until he lost an unwatchable tiebreak at 2.

Then Nick played one of his best tennis to win the following 2 sets without problems and conquer the match with a 6-7 (2) 6-1 6-2 scoreline.

This is a boost of confidence. KYRGIOS

After the match, Nick commented

“I’ve obviously been struggling with injury. A couple of days before the tournament I was having back spasms, so I’ve been nowhere close to 100%. And still beating these guys is a good confidence boost for me.”

The quarters vs. Karlovic

Nick will face Ivo Karlovic in the quarters. The head to head is 4-0 for the Australian.
