Garbine Muguruza is back to winning ways in Monterrey after a fantastic week.
The Spaniard didn’t manage to win a title since she triumphed in Cincinnati last year and before this run in Mexico, she recorded a not-so-fantastic 10-7 win-loss record in 2018.
Ranked no.1 in Monterrey, Garbine reached the final without dropping a single set. The final against Timea Babos was a completely different story with the world no.3 trailing on a 3-6 0-2 scoreline. Eventually, Garbine found her way to win the 2nd set, and finally she clinched the contest in 3 sets. The final score was 3-6 6-4 6-3 with Garbine earning just 4 points more than Timea (100 vs. 96).
Excited to finish the hard-court season with a title. MUGURUZA
Soon after the match, Garbine commented
“I’m happy to be finished with the hardcourt season for now and winning a title here in Monterrey was a great way to finish it. Now I’m excited to go back on clay courts because it’s my home surface. I’m looking forward to playing Fed Cup and starting fresh on a different surface.”
This is Garbine’s 6th career title. Going for more.
