Verdasco attacks Kyrgios over inappropriate tweet

Nick Kyrgios and Fernando Verdasco had a rather bitter, yet unnecessary, quarrel over the internet for an inappropriate comment from the Australian.

The background

Fernando had to face Kyrgios’ friend Thanasi Kokkinakis in the 3rd round in Miami. Nick has always been a tremendous supporter of Thanasi, and he posted a tweet reminding the recent bad history of Fernando Verdasco against Australians. In fact, the Spaniard has lost the last 6th match against the Aussies after he capitulated to Alex De Minaur this year and previously 3 times against Tomic and twice against Kyrgios.

Kyrgios posted

“I hope TK wins this match, Verdasco is the saltiest dude, must be frustrated at his past success against Aussies.”

Later the Australian deleted the tweet, but that was too late.

Verdasco replied

@NickKyrgios when you have the courage to put a tweet insulting another player you need to have the same to don’t delete it.”

Kyrgios’ last tweet

Nick “ended” the quarrel posting

“I would honestly have told it to Fernando’s face, the reason I deleted my previous tweet was because I didn’t want to cause unwanted attention, but I’m just gonna leave this here. Thanks for blocking me, I’m sure that took a lot of courage x”

The good news for Verdasco is that at the end of the day he interrupted his losing streak against Aussies after he defeated Kokkinakis in 3 sets 3-6 6-4 7-6 (4).
