Denis Shapovalov has another deep run at a Master ATP1000.
The young Canadian impressed last year in Montreal where he reached the semifinal, and this year in Miami, and he trying to do the same after Denis reached the 4th round in Florida after defeating Sam Querrey after a long contest.
The match
Denis started the match against Querrey pretty well with an early break in the 4th game (3-1) before winning the opener 6-3. The second set was a completely different story with the Canadian conceding a break in the 2nd game (0-2) and 6th game (1-5) before losing the set 6-3.
Things looked desperate for Shapovalov in the decider when he was broken again in the 3rd game (1-2), but this time he managed to break back immediately (2-2). The match was still very complicated for Denis that struggled in all his subsequent service games, but eventually he managed not to drop his service. We had an entirely different story on Querrey’s side that had no problems in holding his serve soon after with the notable exception of the very last game when he was broken at 15.
The Canadian won this contest 6-4 3-6 7-5 in 2 hours and 21 minutes.
Denis will face either Borna Coric or Jack Sock in the 4th round.
Denis Shapovalov gets a tremendous win over Sam Querrey 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to reach in Miami the last 16 of a M1000 for the 2nd time in his career.
