Rod Laver has often been labeled as the greatest tennis player of all time (GOAT) especially after conquering 2 calendar slams back in 1962 and 1969.
The Australian has always been against the GOAT notion because he maintained that the tennis eras are so different that you can only talk about the “most dominant player of his own time.”
Rod had to change idea after Roger Federer broke all sorts of records following his amazing comeback and he was more than happy to give a fantastic gift to Roger after the Swiss defeated Borna Coric following a brutal 3 setter.
The present was an old Dunlop Maxply inscribed with “To the greatest, from Rod Laver ’62 ’69’”
Roger was more than elated about that.
Legends’ stuff.
As much as we love Roger Federer Tennis Tonic has really turned into the Roger Federer Fan Club Newsletter. This constant talk of GOAT daily has become abosolutely boring. If one is truly the greatest of all time it does not need to be repeated and amended multiple times per day day or week. You`d barely know that Del Potro won the Indian Wells Open if you didn`t read between the Roger Federer lines. Does Roger have stock in Tennis Tonic or what??
