Tommy Haas retires from tennis

Tommy Haas announces his retirement from tennis.

The Indian Wells tennis director and former world no.2 wasn’t playing since last year’s August, and he wasn’t training either. Therefore, at 39 years of age, his retirement was well expected.

Currently ranked 259, Tommy won 15 titles. He was extremely close to denying his good friend Roger Federer to win his only Roland Garros title when he famously had 1 break point in the French Open semifinals against the Swiss while he was leading 7-6 (4) 7-5 4-3. Eventually, Tommy lost that match and Roger won the Roland Garros.

The statement

The German released the following statement

“I consider myself extremely fortunate that I was able to play professional tennis for a living for more than two decades.

The sport gave me cherished friendships, an ability to travel the world, and opportunities to create incredible memories. It also taught me a lot about what it means to face challenges, battle back, and overcome them.

To my parents, family, wife, and children, thank you for all the love and support that you gave me over the years. And, to the fans, thank you for cheering me on throughout my career.”

The “cool” thing is that the last win of Tommy Haas was against Roger Federer back in Stuttgart 2017 when he beat the Swiss after saving a match point.

Good luck for the rest of the journey!
