Federer retains world no.1 rank after beating Chung

Roger Federer keeps on winning in 2018.

The Swiss star has matched his best start of the season after recording an astonishing 16-0 following his titles at the Australian Open, Dubai and the semifinal he has just reached in Indian Wells where he has defeated Hyeon Chung in the quarters. The last time that Roger has won the first 16 matches at the start of a season was back in 2006.

After reaching the final 4 in the desert, Roger has also secured his world no.1 rank after this event.

The quarter against Chung

Roger had a great start against the South Korean after he broke Chung in the second game of the first set after Hyeon was leading 40-0. Later it was Roger to fall short on his serve when he was leading 3-1 40-15 to give the opportunity to his young opponent to regain the lost confidence and be back in the contest. The opener became a dogfight at it was Roger to winning after Chung lost his serve at 15 in the 12th game.

The second set was 1-way traffic and Roger conquered the match with a 7-5 6-1 scoreline after just 82 minutes.

The semis vs. Coric

Roger will face Borna Coric in the semifinal. The head to head is 1-0 for Roger that defeated the Croatian 6-2 6-1 in the Dubai semifinal 3 years ago.
