Federer 1 step away from staying no.1 and matching his best start of the year

Roger Federer is advancing safely in Indian Wells.

The defending champion needs to reach the semifinals to remain world no.1 after the competition. In the 4th round, Roger beat Jeremy Chardy 7-5 6-4 in a match profoundly disturbed by a fierce wind.

The difference between Roger and Jeremy was a break per set. In the opener, Roger got that break after Jeremy double-faulted in the 11th game; in the second set, it was Roger to conquer the break after a fantastic rally followed by a stunning backhand winner in the 9th game. The contest ended after 82 minutes.

Draw and Results

After this match, Roger has a 15-0 record in 2018. This is his best start ever after 2006 when he won the first 16 matches.

The quarters vs. Chung.

Roger will face Hyeon Chung in the quarters. The head to head is 1-0 for Roger after the South Korean withdrew during their semifinal in Melbourne.
