Federer expected to play on clay

Roger is still very much open to playing on the dirt

Roger Federer has skipped last year’s clay court season to also decided not to compete at the Roland Garros even if he was fully fit.

This year the scenario might be a bit different also because some of his strongest opponents are struggling or out of competitions. In fact, Rafael Nadal is not able to complete a tournament since last October when he lost in the final in Shanghai to Roger Federer; Murray is recovering from a hip surgery, and he will be back for the season on grass; Djokovic is still battling with his elbow. In addition, Nishikori is not able to perform a proper comeback, and Wawrinka is struggling with his knee.

This scenario will open the door for Roger Federer even to try to win his second Roland Garros.

From Federer

Roger has always stated that he will decide after Miami, but he was still quite open to the option to compete on the dirt, and he confirmed it during his recent post-match conference in Indian Wells. Federer said that he is starting to rethink his schedule and comment

“I probably won’t play in the very beginning, you know, meaning Monaco. Also, I have a Foundation trip I’m doing at that time, so I am planning that a bit.

The rest, I said, I will decide after Miami to then decide what I will play if I do play the clay court after that.”

All signs are good.
