Novak Djokovic has won 16 Grand Slam title in his tennis career. The world number one won this year’s Wimbledon title in a thrilling final against Roger Federer. The title was his fifth at the Championships and he is only four titles away from equaling Swiss’ 20 Grand Slams. Djokovic has struggled with injuries in his career, but the 32-year-old has time on his side as he chases the record. The Serbian is an advocate for hyperbaric oxygen therapy and is one of many tennis players who use the treatment for recovery after matches.

The Hyperbaric Private chamber

Djokovic appears to be taking the treatment more seriously than most. At the recently concluded US Open, the player is said to have brought his private hyperbaric chamber along with him. The world number one had a truck carrying the oxygen chamber near the Corona park area. Tournament officials have confirmed that an area was closed off to accommodate a trailer for his use during the US Open. The trailer was located next to the New York Hall of Science.

Shoulder injury

Despite the measures Djokovic took to prepare for the event, his tournament ended in disappointment. The 32-year-old was forced to withdraw during a match with Stan Wawrinka after suffering a shoulder injury. The Serbian player has been an advocate for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. He uses it for recovery after playing in tennis matches. The treatment is carried out in chambers which have oxygen in pressure conditions. The athlete lies down in the chamber and breaths the oxygen in for about 60-90 minute sessions. The increased oxygen dissolves into the blood more quickly which experts of the treatment say stimulates body regeneration.

The 32-year-old has been number one since November 2018. He has spent a cumulative 269 weeks at the position and is now fourth on the list. He continues to chase Roger Federer as the GOAT debate continues. Federer holds the record of most weeks spent at number one, spending a total of 310 weeks at the top of the rankings.
