What Federer needs to do to stay world no.1 after Indian Wells and Miami

Roger Federer has managed to make history to be the oldest world no.1 after his great run in Rotterdam in February. The Swiss Legend has 2000pts to defend in Indian Wells and Miami as he is the defending champion in both events and he needs to perform well in both events to remain the world no.1 even after Rafael Nadal announced his withdrawal from both events

What Federer should do to stay at the top

Roger needs to make 711 points if he wants to stay at the top of the rankings till the grass court season. Therefore, if he wants to stay world no.1 after Indian Wells, he needs to reach at least the semifinals in California.

If he wants to stay no.1 after Miami he needs to:

1-      Win the title either in Indian Wells or Miami;

2-      Reach the final I one of the events and the at least the quarters in the other;

3-      Reach the semifinal in both events

If Roger cannot make, he has still a huge chance to get back in the rankings as Nadal has 4,680 points to defend during the clay court season because he is the defending champion in Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, and the Roland Garros (he reached the quarters in Rome), while Roger has none.
