Tipsarevic, Monaco to clash at the 2012 Mercedes Cup final in Stuttgart – Youtube

We had 2 tough semifinals at 2012 Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart.

TIPSAREVIC – BELLUCCI 6-4 2-6 6-4

It took a couple of hours for the Serbian to down an erratic Bellucci. You’ll never what to expect from the Brazilian that is always in a big struggle to balance his explosive tennis with some consistency. Yesterday it wasn’t any different with Bellucci winning an inspiring second set 6-2 (OK Janko was also not that good in that set) to then fall in the third.

“It really wasn’t easy today. I wasn’t feeling all that well on the court. The good thing was as the match progressed in the third set, I was starting to feel better,” said Tipsarevic. “Physically I was fit, considering I played a three-hour match yesterday, and I’m happy I’m into the final. He was completely different than the other two players I played here. Suddenly, I’m playing a lefty, playing really far from the baseline with heavy spin, so I needed to adjust my game. I had the right attitude throughout the match and that’s one of the main reasons why I’m through.”

MONACO – GARCIA-LOPEZ 6-3 3-6 7-5

Crazy match here. Monaco won, but his success rate in the important points was not really good. He lost 3 break points out of three and he managed to convert only 4 break points out of 13! In addition, he squandered a 5-1 lead and 5 match points in the 3rd set to then manage to win the decider 7-5. Well at the end of the game Pico was good in not imploding… well done.

“It was a crazy match. I served twice for the match and I lost many match points,” said Monaco. “I was a little disappointed. But tennis is like this. You always have a chance to win. I’m very happy the way I fought back today. I made many mistakes, but then I was focused, thinking about winning and I’m happy about that.”

THE FINAL

Head to Head Monaco leads 2-1 (2-0 on clay).

“It’s a great final for the spectators. Everyone is happy here,” Monaco said. “It will be a difficult final. Janko is a great player. This year, he’s playing really well. But I like to play on clay so much. It will be a tough match and we’ll see how it goes.”
