Simona Halep named honorary citizen of Bucharest

Simona Halep has been inspiring her nation during the last few years. The world no.1 has been chasing the top of the rankings putting everything she had in her for the previous months, and she was able to overcome many tough losses. Eventually, Simona made it, and after losing the world no.1 position for few weeks, she is now back at the top.

The 26th of February the Romanian was named honorary citizen of Bucharest in appreciation of her fantastic sport performance. The appointment has been done in the presence of George Cosac, the president of the Romanian Tennis Federation, Ilie Năstase, Andrei Pavel, Virginia Ruzici, and retired footballer Bogdan Stelea.

This city is my home

Simona was visibly emotional on stage to comment

“I’m very excited; it’s difficult to talk on stage than being on the ground. I want to thank for this appointment; maybe it’s the most important thing in my career. It is an honor to be a citizen of honor to the capital. When I came 10 years ago, it was a foreign city, but now I can say that this city is home.

I thank the country for having had everything I needed to be the world’s number one.”
