DELRAY BEACH. Denis Shapovalov is accumulating a lot of experience on the ground. The Upcoming Canadian had to play a unique player in his Delray Beach opener, Ivo Karlovic, and that wasn’t easy.
Even if Denis was well aware that the rule of the game was protecting his own service, he was broken in the very first game after committing a double fault. When he was 0-2 down, he had to save 4 more break points to finally get on the scoreboard. Then, Shapovalov found his range to break Karlovic twice in the set and in the opener 7-5. The second set went straight to the breaker; Denis kept his cool and eventually he won the contest 7-5 7-6 (4).
