I got homesick last year. SHAPOVALOV

At 18-year-old, Denis Shapovalov is one of the most promising talents on tour. The upcoming Canadian had a fantastic season in 2017 especially after he reached the semifinals at the Rogers Cup after beating the likes of Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin Del Potro and he got to the 4th round at the US Open coming straight from the qualifications.

It’s crazy on the round

Denis admitted that he struggled a bit dealing with the life on the road last season to comment

“I think I matured last season. I was a little bit overwhelmed with all the travel, dealing with the media stuff.

There was a lot of pressure, switching hotels every week, traveling to different continents. It’s absolutely crazy at times on the road for so long. I was going through some sickness physically, and I was also mentally homesick, so it was pretty difficult and rough.

I think I learned to embrace it and the biggest thing is to really enjoy my time on tour and be part of it for many years.’’

Denis is currently ranked no.46 (career high), and he is competing in Delray Beach where he will face Ivo Karlovic in the opener.
