Kvitova triumphs in Doha

DOHA. Petra Kvitova is rising again!

The Czech had a terrible accident that dented the beginning of her last season after she was stabbed at home to her left hand in December 2016. This was definitely a career-threatening event, but apparently she is finding her way back.

After a tentative start in 2018 (she lost in the 2nd round in Sydney and the 1st in Melbourne), Petra has now won 11 consecutive matches after triumphing back to back in St. Petersburg and now in Doha.

Petra’s run was particularly good in Qatar as she had to defeat top players such as Agnieszka Radwanska, Elina Svitolina, Caroline Wozniacki, and Garbine Muguruza before winning the title.

The final against Muguruza was extremely intense for the Czech especially after Garbine conquered a fast 5-0 lead. After losing the 1st set, Petra managed to hold all her service games to break the Spaniard once per set. The final result was 3-6 6-3 6-4.

It’s a special feeling. KVITOVA

Soon after winning the title, Petra had a thought about her attack to comment

“It’s a very special feeling to be back. I remember sometime last year when I was asked about this; I couldn’t even dream of it.”

Currently ranked no.21, Petra will be back in the top20 after this week. Next step the top10.

Welcome back Petra!
