Roger Federer ends a very successful week in Rotterdam after winning his 97 titles in style.
The main objective in the Netherlands was for Roger to regain his world no.1 rank. The mission was completed after he reached the semifinals, then he went for more to conquer the title.
The final
Roger was opposed to a resurgent Grigor Dimitrov. The head to head was already 6-0 for the Swiss, but the task head was still tricky, at least on paper.
Grigor started extremely strong to concede just 1 point in the first 2 service games before grabbing a 2-1 lead. Interesting enough, from that moment on it was game over with Federer winning the following 7 games (6-2 2-0) playing outstanding tennis.
Dimitrov tried to fight back, but apparently he was also dented by an injury to his knee. Eventually, Roger had no problems to win the match 6-2 6-2 in just 55 minutes.
One of the best weeks of my life. FEDERER
Soon after winning the title, an elated Roger Federer commented
“The goal at the start of the week was to make it to the semi-finals. It’s unbelievable to be number one again. This is one of the best weeks of my life.
I had a great first match and a great last match. In between it was a battle, it was nerve-wracking, but I was able to manage my nerves and the expectations.”
What about Dubai?
Now the big question mark is if Roger will compete in Dubai in 2 weeks’ time. Apparently, this is quite possible as the new world no.1 didn’t really have a tough week from a physical point of view in Rotterdam, and Roger seems to be extremely focused on his next target: 100 titles.
3 to go.
