Denis Shapovalov is about to kick start the Laver Cup on Friday as he will face Dominic Thiem in the first match of the competition. Denis is not having a smashing season as he hoped to feature also a not so great 20-20 win-loss record.

Currently ranked no.33, Denis will try to have a good end of the season also wit the help of his new coach Mikhail Youzhny. The Canadian had a couple of good runs when helped by the Russian after he reached the semifinal in Winston-Salem and he lost in the 3rd round to an inspired Gael Monfils.

Denis played the inaugural event in Prague 2 years ago to comment:
“I’m really excited. You know, I had a lot of great memories in Prague a couple of years ago. It was a lot of fun being on the team with guys like Nick, Jack, and John this year. I’m really looking forward to it. Yeah, I’m excited to be in Geneva. It’s my first time.”

Denis and Dominic played each other twice and the H2H is 2-0 for the Austrian.

Ranked no.33, the Canadian played his last match on the 31st of August when he was defeated by Gael Monfils 6-75 7-64 6-4 6-76 6-3 in the 3rd round in U.S. Open.
Denis Shapovalov’s best performance of this year was reaching the semi-finals in Salem and Miami.
