No problems for Simona Halep in her 1st round in Doha against Ekaterina Makarova. The world no.2 started the match extremely fast to grab a quick 5-1 lead before winning the opener 6-3. The second set was again one-way traffic with Simona bagelling her opponent before winning the contest 6-3 6-0 in 71 minutes.
Simona is chasing again the world no.1 rank in Doha. She can regain the top of the rankings if the actual world no.1, Caroline Wozniacki, doesn’t outperform the Romanian in this event.
Being aggressive was the key. HALEP
After the match, Simona commented
“I’m happy that I could play what I had in my mind. To be aggressive, to try to finish the points, to make some winners, which I did, and in the end, the serve helped me a lot.
At one point I just started to roll it, and then I just shacked my head, and I said that I have to hit it, so I hit it, and it helped me a lot.”
Next vs. Sevastova
Simona will face the world no. 15 Anastasija Sevastova in the second round. The head to head is 5-2 for the Romanian.
