Sascha Zverev is about to play the Davis Cup tie against Australia in Brisbane, and when asked about Bernard Tomic, the German had a rather polemic answer.
What happened
Now ranked no. 168, Tomic failed to qualify for the main draw of the Australian Open following the refusal from the organization to grant a wildcard for the main draw. Eventually, Tomic decided to participate in the “Network Ten’s I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here” where he was supposed to spend some time in a South African jungle. Tomic lasted just 3 nights to be the first person to quit.
During the press conference before the Davis Cup tie, Hewitt refused to comment on this episode while Sascha Zverev had no problems to express his opinion to say
“He was there for what? Six hours? Something like that. It was great fun for the viewers for the one day that it lasted.
Didn’t he say he wanted to be top five by the end of the year, something like that when he left the jungle camp or whatever you call it?
Good luck to him, that’s all I can say.
But hopefully, he can get back to playing tennis and at a good level again. Because he has the talent, we all know that he has shown that on multiple occasions. He has to figure out what he wants to do first.”
Ys, Tomic has not many friends on tour anymore.
