Stefanos Tsitsipas thrilled to play with Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer on Laver Cup

Stefanos Tsitsipas has defeated both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer before. It will be exciting to watch how will he fare with them as their teammate for Laver Cup 2019.

Many experts consider Stefanos Tsitsipas as one of the players who are most likely to inherit the dominance of the Big Three in the Grand Slam tournaments. The 21-year old star is among the few players in the world who can claim to have defeated Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic at least once in their career. For the Laver Cup, however, Tsitsipas will be sharing the stage with the Spanish and the Swiss as teammates.

Tsitsipas said that he is thrilled that he has the chance to be part of Team Europe a at the upcoming Laver Cup for the first time. He explains that it is like a dream come true for him to share the court with the two tennis legends, who have inspired him in one way or another. He also said that he will take this as an opportunity to learn from both Federer and Nadal.

He also said that it was an honor for him to be invited to Switzerland for the tournament. The Greek player also complimented the culture in Switzerland, exclaiming that the Swiss understand tennis.

The young tennis star previously already said that tennis is such an individual sport. He is excited about the idea of playing as a team in the competition. Apart from Nadal, Federer and Tsitsipas, Germany’s Alexander Zverev, Austria’s Dominic Thiem and Italy’s Fabio Fognini are also in Team Europe for Laver Cup 2019.

Renewed rivalry between Tsitsipas and Kyrgios?

When Tsitsipas was announced for this year’s Laver Cup, the news sparked excitement among fans. His participation was confirmed in the event along with his friend and rival,  Nick Kyrgios.

While the two are great friends outside the court, they recently faced off with each other in the Washington Open when the Australian won in 3 sets. The match was hard-fought and has been hailed as a potential peek at one of the future’s great tennis rivalries.

Kyrgios, who is on his third Laver Cup, confessed that the event is his favorite week in the tennis calendar. He said that he is eager to work with his teammates in Team World so they can win the tournament.

Nadal looking forward to Laver Cup matches

Meanwhile, coming off from his U.S. Open win, Nadal is diving into the Laver Cup right away. Federer said that world No. 2 told him how excited he was. It is highly likely that 20-time Grand Slam champion and Nadal will be playing for a doubles match again this year as they have been seen practicing together.
