AMAZING Halep beats Kerber to qualify for the Australian Open final

Simona Halep conquers another great battle at the Australian Open.

The world no.1 won a fantastic battle in the 3rd round after she defeated Lauren Davis 4-6 6-4 15-13 in a 3 hours and 44 minutes epic. Now, in the semifinal, the Romanian repeats herself after beating Angelique Kerber 6-3 4-6 9-7.

The match

The match was extremely atypical from the beginning with Halep conquering a fast 5-0 lead in just 13 minutes. Then, Kerber stormed back to win 3 consecutive games, but that was too late, and the world no.1 conquered the opener (6-3). When Simona was leading the second set 3-1 it seemed as the Romanian was poised to win the match without much trouble, but then Angelique won 6 of the following 7 games to grab a 3-6 6-4 1-0 (1 break up) lead.

After a colossal battle, Halep got a strong 5-3 lead, but she failed to convert 2 consecutive match points soon after when she was 5-4 15-40 up on Kerber’s serve. Things changed entirely later as it was Angelique to have 2 straight match points on her serve when she was 6-5 40-15 up, but now it was time for the Romanian to win both points. Eventually,  Simona found the final solution after 2 hours and 20 minutes.

I am shaking. HALEP

Soon after the match, during the on-court interview, Simona commented

“It definitely was very tough; I’m shaking, I’m very emotional. She’s a very tough opponent. I’m really glad that I could resist and I could win this match. I have just to enjoy.

I had just confidence in myself. I decided after I twist my ankle (in the first round) that I will fight for every point in this tournament and then I will rest. I didn’t give up, not even a ball. If you don’t give up, you can win the match in the end. I did it, and I’m really proud of myself.”

The final

Simona will now face Caroline Wozniacki in the final to conquer both the title and retain the world no.1 rank. The head to head is 4-2 for Caroline, but Simona leads 2-1 on hard courts.
