Incredible stuff in Melbourne as Hyeon Chung qualifies for the semifinals after beating Tennys Sandgren.
The match
After winning the first set 6-3, the Asian broke the American in the first game of the second set, but eventually, he was broken twice to be 3-5 down. Sandgren failed to serve out the set, and eventually, Chung won the following tiebreak at 5. In the third set, Chung won the decisive break in the 4th game (3-1), and that was enough for him to win the set and the match 6-4 7-6 (5) 6-3.
Fun stuff from Chung
Soon after the match, Chung admitted that he wasn’t fully prepared for the occasion to say
“I don’t know in last game 40-love up; I start thinking what I had to do in the ceremony, something like that. After the deuce point, no ceremony. I’m just trying to stay focused because I’m first time in these [big] matches.”
Chung will play the semifinal against either Tomas Berdych or Roger Federer.
